Third time pays for all. Beetlejuice, beetlejuice, beetlejuice. Is there magic in threes? Because my wife and I are putting in our third offer for a house, I spent some time wondering about the etymology of 'third time's the charm'. One of the first mentions is found in Alexander Hislop's "Proverbs of Scotland". "The third time's lucky." Though since it's already a proverb at this time, I suspect it's much older.
The weird sisters, hand in hand,
Posters of the sea and land,
Thus do go about, about,
Thrice to thine and thrice to mine,
And thrice again to make up nine.
Peace, the charm's wound up. 1 reply
