how do you balance preparation and spontaneity, and what have you learned about this balance over time, in your podcast interviews and beyond?

Good question. I'm not sure if you got this from something I said in the past, but I believe "the balance between preparation and spontaneity" (verbatim) is the single hardest part about podcasting. It's what makes it more of an art than a science. I don't think there's a formula, or a right answer. I've learned that.

Thanks, forgot I mentioned this there. My thinking on this balance in particular probably hasn't changed much in that time. I think back then I probably thought it was hard and there was no one-size-fits-all answer, and I still think it is hard and there is no one-size-fits-all answer.
