Started doing this thing where, when I find a topic I want to learn about, I find the 10 or 12 most fundamental books from the best in the category and buy them all used for ~$100. I don’t expect to read all of them but they’re there if I want. This was the stack I bought before coaching basketball last winter.

How do you find the most fundamental books about a topic? Are you just really good at research or do you have a list you work off of?

I try not to overthink it. John Wooden won 10 national championships including 7 in a row. Understanding his perspective is probably not going to hurt. Then if someone’s perspective resonates more than another you can devour everything they’ve written. I like 1-3 core influences & take bits and pieces from others.

Wooden biography (by Seth Davis) is great for a more complete picture of the man and the coach.
