nbd or priority for me but couple notes if helpful

1. what if invite link leaks? link refresh mechanism could help avoid issues
2. re: FAQ #8 i would lean toward allowing “request to join”, but doesn’t need to be Day 1. If managing requests is a burden, moderator can ignore and do invite only, but to others, proactively inviting may feel like a greater burden than managing inbox

per #2 below it seems like the lack of ability to request to join channels may be the 80/20 complaint about the channels update. Unless there is another rationale for not doing it beyond owner/mod burden (they can always just ignore requests…) I would enable it sooner than later.

You could give them option to “disable requests to join” in channel settings, but make it enabled by default. I would guess less than 5% of channel owners disable it.

What if channel owners don't want that, though?
