I wonder if privacy coins will finally catch on this cycle. Now that consumer apps like interface are making financial txns more obviously public and passively followable for regular people. (The information was always available for those who wanted to find it but most don’t care enough to do more than follow a feed)

One of the most surprising cryptocurrency “outcomes” since I got into crypto in 2017 is that Zcash didn’t catch on a la Top 10 coin. “Bitcoin but private” always seemed obviously useful and valuable to me, but the market has begged to differ.

Quotes on “outcomes” because the story might not be over yet.

I hope it does drive more interest in privacy. Privacy is the difference between us building a decentralized freedom machine and a decentralized panopticon. 

Privacy coins seem less likely though than a private L2 like Aztec Network taking off.

Onboarding straight to privacy coins is locked down in many countries and subject to extra KYC checks on some platforms. I wouldn't hold my breath.

That said, I'm interested to see what @aztecnetwork comes out with. The fact you can Google someones name (ENS) and see their entire financial history is insanity.
