hot take: I think apple is gradually losing its edge in design (and its heart). Jony Ive wouldn't have let it happen, and I think this is also why he left in 2019. curious what actual designers think

hardware almost doesn't matter anymore. the edge is now in software and apple has a lot of catching up to do. i agree with the physical shape being inferior and uncomfortable to use. 14 Pro felt like holding a knife against my skin. they will cycle back to something more round in time, just like before.

From the perspective of MacBook Pro, the post-Jobs Jony Ive era was painful. Everything was aimed towards reducing weight/size. We lost magsafe, went thru dongle-hell, and suffered with under-utilized Touch Bar.

I went from an 8+ to a 15 max and it’s stunning. I took the case off my phone yesterday and it almost seems like they are designing them to be hard to use and hold so more people drop and break them.
