crypto is scrambling to imitate the apple pay experience, while apple is quietly trying to imitate @slice pay 😏 https://x.com/wesbos/status/1911812039531508011

ethereum should distance itself from speculative use cases by selectively highlighting the apps aligned with its core values. we need to shift the narrative from speculation to real world impact.

Strong agree — pumps (and the inevitable dumps) are net negative on multiple levels: - Top developers avoid the space, leave it, or feel disheartened — turned off by a culture that feels hollow and extractive. - Most newcomers aren’t serial speculators. When they hear “crypto” they think betting, risky assets, and scams. I saw this happening again and again at /appcon. - A few win at the casino, but most lose — many permanently scarred. - It flattens what Ethereum is really about. This doesn’t mean tokens are bad. But the dominant narrative paints crypto as a giant betting arena — when we have far more meaningful problems to solve. It’s fine if Solana leans into speculation, and some Ethereum apps will too. But as an ecosystem, we must resist reducing Ethereum to “crypto” and “speculation”. Ethereum is the world computer. Let’s project that vision and champion apps aligned with the problems we’re here to solve.

/appcon was intense. We now have a much clearer sense of what it takes to bring the world onchain with Ethereum apps. Over the next days and weeks, we’ll share everything that happened — the stories, the insights, and the learnings we believe will be valuable to anyone building in the space. In the meantime, massive thanks to those who made it possible despite the crazy deadlines: @andreap @mermaid17 @zerohex.eth @limone.eth @oumi @fattybuthappy 🫡

Can confirm from /appcon: we desperately need better ways to explain “why crypto / why Ethereum” tailored to each audience. - Artists care about provenance, immutability, new forms of art and staying connected with their fans and customers. - Merchants care about higher profits and new markets. - Creators care about owning their content and social graph. - Everyone sees it as risky and needs to understand the basics first. The window to capture attention is short — often just a few minutes before you lose them. This is really hard. We need more focused resources tackling this exact challenge — and many more people actively onboarding users onchain.
