You can hold any other yield bearing asset on Ethereum, and make a case for it, but you cannot make any case ever for holding pure ETH.

If this is true, there's no reason to hold any crypto currency, since eth is the most profitable crypto in terms of burn to inflation ratio

Well, I go through that much Eth in a week, but I'm not an average user so I get the idea.  I have a hunch that when retail picks up again, there will also be a lot more gas-guzzling bot use-cases emerging.

And technically isn't Ethereum a utility token that captures fees? it just (currently) doesn't capture as much as it issues

I would say the difference is some tokens are utility tokens that capture fees.

I totally agree though. My unrequested unprofessional opinion is you shouldn't hold any cryptocurrency that's just a call option on future blockspace. You need maybe 0.1 ETH for the rest of your life.
