I interviewed Alex Zhang about the art of bringing people together, building a ski resort with Reed Hastings, and getting into rooms you're not supposed to be in. I've known Alex since he convinced me to let him on the golf cart as I drove Mark Cuban across our college campus. Since then, he's continued to surprise me, inspire me, and find unlikely ways to curate people, spaces, and art. We talked about this and much more: - Can art and commerce really mix? Why are patrons so important for art? - How do you throw a great house party? What about a music festival? or @fwb fest? - How do you successfully blend unlikely domains: music & tech, crypto & culture, skiing & art? - What makes Reed Hastings such a special leader and communicator? - Is "community" anything more than an empty word? - How did Alex convince Elon to come talk at his college club (rather than university-wide commencement)? - Why does playfulness create magic? Why is taste a worthwhile pursuit? Available on all platforms below.

Great ep from @jackson on building a private ski resort Alex Zhang (early @fwb) is now working with Netflix’s co-founder to reimagine Powder Mountain. Lots of good snow + culture content https://pods.media/dialectic/14-alex-zhang-curating-cultural-playgrounds

Alex has one of the most self-actualized roles I know of. It was meant for him

as always a great one the lore of Alex bringing Elon to USC in 2015 was a crazy motivator for me in college. an early realization that you can just do stuff

If you're trying to build anything that people love, this is essential listening. Not a growth hack in sight it’s just vibes, values, and vision

Dialectic by @jackson is my new favorite podcast. The guests are all phenomenally bright and inspiring, and Jackson does a tremendous job stitching together a beautiful tapestry of conversation over myriad, often complex and not completely related, topics.

Was listening to @nabeelqu on @jackson’s podcast, and he said something along the lines of “the best founders I’ve worked with would simply make a TODO list and then not leave the office until everything on the list was completed.” There was a lot more interesting convo across the episode, but that line really stuck with me. Probably because it highlights one of my biggest flaws.

There’s nothing objective in art, but to me it comes down to whether meaning is conveyed and received. Care is about intention and often the result of care is surprise, strangeness, something unpredictable — as I think those are often prompts for meaning
