The peg scare was about short term liquidity rather than any broader safety issues. So stETH is quite safe but there is no guarantee the peg holds over any specific period.

If you ask, you know the answer.  Its existence is just a shortcut.  Not allowing withdrawals was for me a price appreciation strategy.
