what would you tell people in academia now that you’ve made that transition?

In research only 2 types of people do well:

Those who are not especially brilliant and don’t mind being a small cog in the slowest turning wheel of all time.

Those who are exceptionally good at science and truly passionate.

If you’re in the middle, it’s soul-crushing drudgery.
