I recently had a discussion with the CEO of a headphone company who wants to do some kind of web3 rewards program. I'm wondering if people here have any thoughts about companies introducing web3 features that probably aren't completely necessary?

I think of it less as necessary v not, and more like a channel play (early betting on e-commerce or social) β donβt need to do it, but you could regret missing out. Iβd say not worth it unless leadership sees it as a long term bet with some short term wins along the way.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by channel play?

(Nuance cut to fit this in a cast) For many web3 loyalty implementations, an ethereum account is a way to distribute content/ target offers. Ultimately, the success of a marketing channel depends on audience size. The bet is on the audience size increasing over time, with hope for gaining a first mover advantage.
