Almost every app is bad at wysiwyg-like input with backticks for code snippets. There's should be two "edge of snippet" cursor positions: inside and outside. Instead, most apps try to follow "one cursor movement per character" and then it's impossible to get inside or outside the code snippet.

So true. An alternate approach would be to add a "jump" button to jump the cursor over the little border between code and non-code sections.
