During the pandemic I got multiple uncorrelated friend groups to play ticket to ride virtually. I sorted out the tickets so each group would have approximately the same amount of points and train usage so we'd have less chance to draw the same ticket.

Exactly that, each group had their own copy and I let them know what tickets to have in their pile. If they ran out of tickets they could use the pile another group had but ran the risk of overlapping routes. I had tickets broken up to three groups for US and Europe. It worked best with 2 groups - 4 people.
