At what age did your kid learn to read? How did you go about teaching them?

My kids memorized the stories we read to them at bed time. Then they would “read” them back to us and we would point out each of the words so they get acclimated to groups is letters as words, spaces between words, direction in which we read, etc. they also loved writing names (Mom, Dad, etc).
