With a heavy heart am sharing a statement from Drop Site about the killing of our colleague Hossam Shabat. Hossam was a reporter in Gaza who filed many dispatches for us during the war. This morning we received the terrible news that he had been killed in a targeted airstrike on his car. The killing came after numerous threats from the Israeli military directed against him during the period that he was reporting. He was only 23 years old.

So heartbreaking. Rest in peace, Hossam. 💔

Can we talk about the fact that the state of Israel has officially killed more than 170 journalists and media workers? This is absolutely unprecedented.

The level of impunity is staggering and it’s only possible because the U.S. government is funding these atrocities, and major media outlets are complicit by purposefully spinning information to justify these targeted killings or by ignoring them altogether (as they are doing today. just search the news and see who actually published anything). We need to keep speaking up!
