I participated in Hawaii's inaugural blockchain summit yesterday, alongside @justbuild @cove @tracyit @daganxyz @chusla and many others.
Some takeaways:
- We had about ~150 in attendance. Small numbers, but a diverse & relevant crowd, including an Aptos co-founder from Hawaii
- It's important to draw the builders & degens out from behind their screens to drive discussion *in person* at the *local levels* (this is different from name brand conferences in big cities)
- A state senator gave the keynote and was supportive of blockchain, which may not sound like much, but in our deeply blue state, it's a lot
- I really don't enjoy public speaking, but it's important to get out of the comfort zone every once in a while. What's the worst that could happen?
It felt like what I imagine the 1st FarCon was - intimate, meaningful, early.
To quote Just Build (who is fantastic on stage): "This year, 100. Next year, 1000. The year after, 10,000."
