Let me tell you a story.
This image is based on one of the last photographs of British explorer Henry Worsley, a great admirer of Ernest Shackleton.
At 48, along with a small team, he recreated Shackleton's 1907 expedition to the South Pole, though they didn’t reach their goal.
Did he stop there?
Not at all. In 2015, at the age of 55, he decided to cross Antarctica on foot and solo. After covering 1,500 km (900 miles) and getting very close to his objective, he had to be evacuated due to peritonitis.
As a tribute, I created this, starting with a simple cube, step by step, over the course of an entire month, adding detail after detail. I know that nowadays an AI could do it in three minutes, and probably better, but the journey and everything I learned along the way are irreplaceable.
