How decentralized is Farcaster today? Sign ups - You can sign up permissionlessly with the smart contract as a developer - You can sign up with Supercast, Herocast, Farquest (and maybe others...) Data / APIs - You can permissionlessly run a Hub - There are thousands of independently run Hubs - If you don't want to run a Hub, you can use an infra provider like Neynar or Airstack Protocol vs. non-protocol features - Casts, reactions, follows, profiles, verifications are all on Hubs - Not on Hubs: channel metadata, settings and follows, direct casts, location in user profiles If Warpcast labels me as spammy, is that censorship? - Depends on your definition! If you have an existing audience — say 10K followers — then even if you get labeled spammy your existing your followers will see your content in feeds on Warpcast regardless of whether you use Warpcast or not.. - If you don't care about Warpcast (approximately 80% of signer activity), then your follow graph is already decentralized in the procol.

What's the most credible argument that Farcaster is de facto centralized? - Most people sign up with Warpcast - If you don't sign up with Warpcast, you can't import your account into Warpcast to access direct casts - Direct casts are drive retention, so without access to direct casts your client will struggle relative to Warpcast - Most people use Warpcast, so if you get labeled as spammy then you will be practically invisible for discovery purposes - Warpcast team is primary developer of Hubble (the main implemention of Hubs) and has GitHub control over smart contract repos; also controls storage fee multi-sig and ability to adjust prices

Thanks a lot for the reasonable explanation. But Dan the thing is the cause of "not really a decentralization" lays in the past around the fact that you had advantage launching the first client, which no one can line up fairly taking in account you guys are working a lot and fast – you are great. Still the past circumstances keep holding the others far behind. Your client your rules you said. Well this is smth you could say about DEGEN, ETH, BTC but no one does seeding the culture.

There are no "fair" launches in reality. If we get to good 10M daily active users, people will be happy building clients regardless of who was first. That's like saying Netscape was first to browsers or Internet Explorer couldn't be unseated... :)

I agree on that point completely. And I see tremendous oppties to get millions within weeks. But the common perception is no one hears us. Saying for myself: I feel this. And in its turn this points to the inequality gap we observe. Okay, I have badge thankfully, really appreciate that! But I see dumb fucks deemed OGs who struggle to read more than 2 sentences. Or worse, constantly reading messages and ignoring. Why? Following count.... Pls don't tell me I create low quality content (on avg) :) Well I do admit I am dumb at certain areas fooor sure ofc.

Agreed. Apologies. Just tired trying to get feedback on smth unlike typical memecoin. Dissapointing lot. Demotivating to invent. My former company (actually my whole life company and brand hah) is named Bad Ideas Company for the obvious reason: the "bad" ideas ultimately turn out to be the best, including for the reason no one understood it and implemented before you. That is why the memecoins are kinda stagnating to the extent its twice less ppl on the conferences today than before. The culture has been heading the wrong way, and the current setup doesn't let the fresh blood flow in.
