When it comes to world design, what do you prefer? Open world, linear world or branching linear world? If it was in my hands... I would ban every developer from doing open world games. I can't think of a single game other than Outer Wilds where the open world actually added anything to the game...

Hm, I tend to prefer linear world overall. I donβt immediately go for an open world game, narratively speaking Iβve been burned before (cyberpunk and BG3 being exceptions). But I agree w/you. Now, itβs used as a marketing ploy that it takes away from other components and just saturates what couldβve been.

Couldn't have said it better thanks! If they actually focused in the open world aspect like outer wilds for example, you could end up with a product that maximizes the use of it's world. But that's very complicated, so it's easier to just make big than make dense 20 $degen
