Hesiod (flourished at 700 BC) was one of the earliest Greek poets, often called the βfather of Greek didactic poetry.β Two of his complete epics have survived, the Theogony, relating the myths of the gods, and the Works and Days, describing peasant life. A famous quote is written at Theogony: "Ξ Οα½Έ Ξ΄α½² ΟΟ Ξ»αΏΆΞ½ αΌΟΞ΅ΟαΏΟ αΌΞΈΞ·ΞΊΞ±Ξ½ αΌΞΈΞ¬Ξ½Ξ±ΟΞΏΞΉ αΌ±Ξ΄ΟαΏΆΟΞ±." "Before the gates of excellence, the high gods have placed sweat" As a poet is amazing yet so simple, suggested that hard work and perseverance are essential for achieving excellence and success.
