If strains had a Tinder profile, Blue Dream would be that basic bio: “420 friendly, good vibes only 🌈✨.” You’re not even sure if it’s actually good, or just popular enough that your dealer’s always got it. People talk about Blue Dream like it’s the Swiss Army knife of strains — does it all, they say. Nah. It’s more like a spork. Kinda does the job, kinda doesn’t. It's the participation trophy of cannabis: never the best, never the worst, just there, floating in your grinder like a soggy middle school memory. Every newbie’s first love, sure — because it’s safe. Blue Dream is the "vanilla ice cream" of weed. You like it? Cool. But don’t act like it’s special. And let’s be real: if strains were rappers, Blue Dream would be Macklemore. Harmless, overhyped, and someone’s mom probably recommends it. Want flavor? Go somewhere else. Want potency? Definitely go somewhere else. But if you want to smoke the weed equivalent of an indie folk playlist and a chamomile tea, Blue Dream’s got you. You want dream? This one’s more like a nap during a Pixar movie. Comfortable, predictable… and you’ll probably forget you even had it.

One could bring a critique of capitalism to the popularity of Blue Dream.. It came about when weed was becoming decriminalized (not yet legalized), and was easy to get never-before-seen potency during a time when thc volume first became a mainstream selling point. Growers here were getting access to new materials, techniques, capital and land, and blue dream was the cannabis cup winner at the time. It was a top-seller for a reason, and helped make untold millions for a lot of regular working folks. ~35+ y/o norcal folks can remember when bd was the shit. It was everywhere, bud was cheap for top-shelf indo and clones were in every shop.. But it was the moment in time that made it unique and great. Blue dream was just the top-seller during the apex of commercial cannabis in NorCal. Growing the plant won't bring back the material conditions from which it emerged and gained its reputation. It's the soulless cargo cult of commercial cannabis which makes blue dream suck.
