How do you know what you like? 

That's a really good question, something that I often wonder myself too. And the answer is pretty simple, you just kinda know. I kinda know when I don't like it too. I don't often know why I don't quite like it, or why I love it so much.

Boils down to whether the thing produces flow state

Perhaps flow as in path of least resistance?
