I was just reading about it this past week - The Economist also published a very bullish series of articles on the exponential growth in solar power generation and how cheap and abundant energy will transform the world.

If we can get energy costs to be negligible, and with no meaningful externalities like we have with GHG, we’ll finally be nearer to a Kardashev type 1 civilization

This is a great article as well on recent progress on solar costs

"Displace oil and gas", "unlimited gains in energy production"... Fracking as the best LCOE... The more I read the article, the more sceptical I get.

No energy source has ever displaced any other (and electricity is not primary). Unlimited energy is a pipe dream, and confusing rhetoric. Fracking has environmental and unknown consequences---brute force that reminds 2007 critiques from Juan Enriquez.
