Voting today in NYC kind of red-pilled me. No ID or proof of residency needed, no pic of me in their system, just name+address+signature, all of which plenty of people could find. Millions are victims of identity theft yearly. This is way easier. Should I vote for my brothers?

It's actually quite elegant due to the fact that the DMV and state registers your vote ahead of time. If someone else claims to vote as or for you, then they can take both ballots and investigate (check signatures etc), and this does lead to arrests and court cases. The ACLU wrote that 11% of Americans eligible to vote do not have a valid and current photo ID.

In other words, anybody who has a copy of my signature and address could vote as me. I think it sucks 11% of people don’t have IDs. Let’s give them one! The answer isn’t don’t require it. Make it free and fast. Also, what % don’t have a photo ID OR valid proof of residency like a utility bill? We need a safer system. We wouldn’t just say most people don’t have crypto wallets therefore let’s never use them to their secure benefit. We work on getting them wallets easier
