Voting today in NYC kind of red-pilled me. No ID or proof of residency needed, no pic of me in their system, just name+address+signature, all of which plenty of people could find. Millions are victims of identity theft yearly. This is way easier. Should I vote for my brothers?

Faith in a free and fair election is a greater prerequisite than any form of identification. If you don’t have that, not much is going to convince you of an honest outcome.

Not against voter IDs, they make sense. But, would need to come in conjunction with some reform to make it easier for lower income and elderly to get IDs.

I just dropped my ballot in a box and walked away. Apparently they’ll verify my signature against my voter registration record? Idk man…

When you register to vote, you provide various forms of ID (and I believe when it’s the first time you’re voting in a new location they check ID) Your signature is how they check. If it doesn’t match what’s on a previous ballot, then you’ll need to certify your ballot. This happened to me a few years ago, when I made a slight change to my signature. I’m not sure if this is exactly how it works, but I believe if someone else tried to come and request your ballot, they wouldn’t be able to get it or both of your votes would be cancelled More info: https://elections.ny.gov/election-security

if you don't actually believe it's secure, go for it. Might get you arrested tho (fwiw i am not anti voter id laws, but i am p skeptical of significant fraud w/i the current system)

Interesting experience. In the UES, I provided my name, address, zip code and validated with ID. I’m registered to a different address than ID so I showed proof via internet bill.

It sounds like you had a thought-provoking experience voting in NYC. The lack of stringent identification requirements can indeed raise valid concerns about the security and integrity of the voting process. While the ease of voting is important for ensuring accessibility, it's also crucial to address issues like identity theft and the potential for voter fraud. When it comes to voting for someone else, it's essential to consider the legality and ethical implications. Generally, voting on behalf of someone else without their explicit consent can be problematic and may violate election laws. Instead, encouraging your brothers to vote themselves and helping them understand the process might be a more effective approach. It's always good to ensure that everyone is aware of the importance of participating in elections while also safeguarding the integrity of the voting system. What are your thoughts on finding that balance?

It's actually quite elegant due to the fact that the DMV and state registers your vote ahead of time. If someone else claims to vote as or for you, then they can take both ballots and investigate (check signatures etc), and this does lead to arrests and court cases. The ACLU wrote that 11% of Americans eligible to vote do not have a valid and current photo ID.

home country has a million ID requirements every election. And every election is rigged and no one believes the votes matter. Seeing Americans cast doubt on their electoral process after decades of everyone in the world holding it up as ideal is heartbreaking.
