Why aren’t capital gains inflation adjusted before being taxed? For example, let’s say you invest $100 into a stock and then sell it for $110 a year later, with the inflation rate for that year being 2%. You should only owe capital gains taxes on the inflation adjusted $8 gain instead of on the full $10 gain.
