There's self-centered ambition and there's ambition trying to improve things in the world for others. They can be either, or, or anywhere in-between. Drive is good, screwing over everyone and everything that stands between you and your goals is bad. Gotta work with the world around you. Gotta have direction, but flow. So yes, there is virtue in purposeful ambition, not much in blind ambition.
