Is meditation the art of sitting still and doing nothing?

That's part of it, or at least trying. Doing nothing may be the hardest thing you can try to do, however.

But you're not doing nothing, you're focusing on a single point?

In truth, you can never "do nothing." But trying is worthwhile. Focusing on a single thing as a tool that allows you to kind of see the activity of the mind for what it is, and a new perspective on what conscious awareness is. But it's more of a step to start seeing deeper into yourself.

Interesting, I've never read any methodologies that talk about doing nothing, it all seems to be about single pointed focus, which causes the "ripples in the water" to still, and you see your true nature.. Would love to chat more with you on this! I find it fascinating!
