physics is a wrapper on energy and matter through time that's the definition.. Physics is the scientific study of matter, its fundamental constituents, its motion and behavior through space and time, and the related entities of energy and force.

What determines a good model? Compressibility of prediction. Heliocentric view of solar system not wrong, just much more complicated. Order and chaos differ in compressibility.

Gas laws are a good one. We don’t care about how individual molecules move, we just want to predict the outputs at our scales. Pv=nrt. Laws of physics are such because they are well-compressed predictors. Long version: https://writings.stephenwolfram.com/2023/12/observer-theory/

will read the full observer theory -- thanks for sharing two first thoughts, the abstraction or how you're explaining, compression, is a very applicable mental model.. similarly we don't need to know how a car works to drive it A loose idea in my mind about the observer theory is at my current understanding is that is life is relative to the observer.. however, i find myself regularly trying to articulate that: -- things that persist through time, things that hold state -- and things that are in difference spaces (ex. zoom call with someone on the other side of the the world and that i can see on the news a weather event is occurring somewhere in the world) need to be combined with the observer idea.. i haven't a full grasp on it yet
