This is a fascinating interview (translated from Mandarin by an Israeli expert on China) of a Chinese scholar on the Middle East talking about China’s emergent foreign policy aims. China is a country with a sense of historic purpose and sees it natural that it will have a say in global events equal if not superior to that of any other power, not excluding the United States. In this interview Zhu Welie discusses China’s role mediating between Iran and Saudi Arabia, as well as among Palestinian factions, as part of a broader project of emerging as the leader of the Global South. There is no sense romanticizing the rise of any state but one should accept that China’s rise is a reality and see how other powers can peacefully accommodate themselves to this on terms of mutual justice and acceptance. The interview is recommend as an insight into Chinese foreign affairs: https://open.substack.com/pub/discoursepower/p/zhu-weilie-chinas-middle-east-diplomacy?r=222ia&utm_medium=ios

Global south and Global north, recent terminologies and ideas spread that remind me of Orwell 1984‘s Oceania, Eurasia and East-Asia.
