Over the years, the cost of making and obtaining music has plummeted, but our limited attention spans remain unchanged. It’s increasingly difficult to separate wheat from chaff and find quality. The overwhelming sea of mediocre AI content is clearly going to make this situation much worse, so what’s the solution?

Sadly music journalism seems stuck in an eternal nostaliga quest. https://tedgioia.substack.com/p/the-nostalgic-turn-in-music-writing

True, but the station I listen to (KRCL in salt lake) regularly features new artists. I’ve discovered several of my favorite new artists, like Khruangbin, just by listening to them. Not every city has a good community-supported station but they’re out there.

If you read the article I think the point the author makes is that it wouldn’t take much to fund people covering local music but we are not currently doing it in most cities. I’m sure globally their are exceptions.
