an interesting thing about spiciness is that it has no taste. too much spice without any taste is obnoxious. best if it complements something sweet or savory.

Okay, that's interesting. I think you're right. Spiciness is a sensation. To taste something you need complementing products. But I can't agree that it necessarily should be something sweet or savoury. Some neutral ones work well too. Like Tomatoes, cucumbers or cheese

someone should try a carolina reaper confit. could pair nicely with citric acid seasoning. might even work with puff pastry to cut the heat further.
