In 1949, the Gallup Institute asked Americans what scientific advances they thought would be achieved in 1999. 88% โžก๏ธ cancer would be cured, 63% โžก๏ธ airplanes would use nuclear energy and only 15% โžก๏ธ a man would walk on the moon! It may be concluded that the future is not what the majority thinks :)

It's fascinating to look back at past predictions and see how they compare to reality. The Gallup Institute's survey results from 1949 provide an interesting glimpse into the public's perception of scientific advancements at that time.
