TG isn’t encrypted by default. Which is interesting because most ppl trust it more than WhatsApp. Says a lot about the brand baggage over at FB.

I think it’s more that you don’t need to reveal your phone number to other parties.

Signal’s obsession w phone number collection always irked me. If you’re gunning for privacy, there’s one last thing that could’ve been done to clean up potential metadata leaks…

They were solving for e2e privacy not anonymity.

Answering the question "where's the beef?"

Seems like it was just optimized for onboarding/reducing friction at the expense of privacy and security. I’ve thought of a way to bring your contacts on in a privacy-preserving way but not sure it’s a big enough biz as a stand-alone business.
