Some people think technological acceleration will bail out the current political order. We’ll grow our way out! Or so the logic goes. But did streaming bail out Blockbuster? Did smartphones bail out Nokia? Or did the Industrial Revolution bail out the monarchy? The growth did come. But so did the disruption.

Should be noted that Blockbuster was nearly dead long before streaming took off and they also piloted a VOD service with Enron in 2001.

That’s true. But many people don’t remember that Netflix started with mail order DVD. That said, Blockbuster knew streaming was the future and it *did* make billions — just not for them.
