can you talk more about the process of giving up on consensus-by-bet? was there a discreet moment or conversation where it went from possibility to illogical?

I think it was just discovering Casper FFG and seeing that it had the properties we wanted that did it.

well said, what i take from that is to be always looking for something that works rather than "forcing my favorite thing to work"

yeah it's generally good to put ∼20% of your effort on exploring secondary options
