Finally saw The Brutalist with @matthewb, some thoughts: Very beautiful but sad film Amazing production given the $10M budget. The quarry scenes reminded me of Burtynsky’s work. Amazing performance by Adrien Brody, on another level from Wes Anderson roles. Definitely rated R though. R for every hardship you can imagine. Immigration, racism, poverty, disability, starving artists/architect stereotype, r@pe, drug abuse… I’m not really sure I needed all of that but it’s still a beautiful film. It feels very real of the stories I’ve heard from interns working at big architecture firms or what a struggling artist experiences.
