While historically I have gone with my intuition when it comes to writing, what are some methods/learning paths to take non-fictional writing to the next level?

I'm not a pro writer and english is not my first language but the thing that's helped me the most was to study syntax. It seems basic but understanding precisely the function of each and every word in a sentence helped me organize my thoughts an informations in a clearer way and that expanded to the macro aspects of a text.

It made me more aware of how to spread information and insight hierarchically over the course of a paragraph. One example is that I never put key information on subordinate clauses, and that's a mistake intuition often leads people to do.
