It’s happened with namecheap and others too. There is no solution to this right now. They will learn with time. We use 2fa and passkeys on our accs. Social engineering is another vector of an attack but after this incident I hope they will improve.

We’re working on standardizing listings on these platforms (or any other mini app-stores) but still early. Obviously a lot of technical hurdles. Would love to work with both to improve the dev experience.

But I do agree in general about certain friction being good. It validates the intention. I just don’t think pfp or a username is one of them.

If I have to add a pfp to sign up I’m churning. I have 2000 screenshots in my gallery and 3 pics of myself or something that can work as pfp. I remember how I spent hours to come up with a username for a game, a lot of them were taken. Is it a good thing for onboarding?

I’m saying if the user won’t churn they will ultimately add a pfp. Requiring a pfp at the initial stage just adds friction. It makes the user to choose an image etc. Another reason for a user to churn if they’re just curious and not sure if they even will use the app.

If you need to use tricks to make a user to add a profile pic it’s still a trick. If you’re using an app you will add a pfp.
