if you have compassion for others, is it possible to be both extremely smart and genuinely happy, knowing how messed up the world is and how much worse it might get for a lot of people?

i think yes - if you limit your consumption of harmful and unhelpful media. its mostly being pushed on you cuz we live in a capitalist attention economy anyways..
