I am biased by virtue of being here, but Mastodon is showing what happens when you open the flood gates too early for all users. Instead of deliberately growing user base and taking time to solve the problems for each cohort.

Virtually all of Twitter's problems boil down to some users wanting one experience vs others wanting a different experience. And virtually all of them are solvable by being a protocol with a healthy developer ecosystem on top.

Realization #1001 as first-time founder: Anytime I can do to get better at anything translates into an investment in my business and my career. Be it better building, designing, marketing, story-telling, operations, and what not. Not the case when working as an employee.

Noticed a subtle but noticeable improvement in the quality of my Twitter feed, and realized its because I left it in "Latest" (chronological) mode instead of "Home" (ranked). I found my own revealed preference today
