There are 3 business models for apps. 1. Free with ads 2. Subscription 3. Transaction fee The common thread for all three models is the userโa person, business or AIโhas money to spend. Thatโs obvious for 2 and 3 since the model involves spending money directly with the app. But for 1, if your user base doesnโt have money to spend, the ability to monetize via ads will be low.

Was thinking that is a #4 that is evolving here in particular. Hold/stake/lock tokens is definitely being explored but 1) probably only works sustainably very early in a product/company life cycle 2) if price tanks based on uncontrollable variables it can sour people even on a good product 3) aside from generating fees on token purchase what is the actual revenue model? Seems like eventually it would have to give way to 2 or 3 on Danโs list.

I wonder if there are other monetization models out there, when i deep think about all the different ways to generate revenue they end up calling into 1 of 3 dan mentioned ๐ค

Direct PoS transactions like traditional sales, Grants/public funding for public goods or research. Not an easy wheel to re-invent really.
