There are 3 business models for apps. 1. Free with ads 2. Subscription 3. Transaction fee The common thread for all three models is the userโ€”a person, business or AIโ€”has money to spend. Thatโ€™s obvious for 2 and 3 since the model involves spending money directly with the app. But for 1, if your user base doesnโ€™t have money to spend, the ability to monetize via ads will be low.

Was thinking that is a #4 that is evolving here in particular. Hold/stake/lock tokens is definitely being explored but 1) probably only works sustainably very early in a product/company life cycle 2) if price tanks based on uncontrollable variables it can sour people even on a good product 3) aside from generating fees on token purchase what is the actual revenue model? Seems like eventually it would have to give way to 2 or 3 on Danโ€™s list.

Direct PoS transactions like traditional sales, Grants/public funding for public goods or research. Not an easy wheel to re-invent really.
