Howard Marks 曾提到某个基金每年的回报业绩都在同行的中位数附近，但十几年下来回报在同行中间排名前 5%以内。每个季度，每一年都要和别人攀比争先，是封闭系统，资源匮乏，随时面临死亡危机的环境内，待久了之后形成的一种本能的病态。处于这种病态下的人，精神高度紧张，容易被外在噪音和诱惑打乱自己的长期计划，不顾自己具体的实际情况，频繁透支体力精力，浪费大量资源追逐热点。这种“急性子”的病态，本质却是一种慢性病。悟性好的，在和现实撞击若干次后，才可能意识到需要冷静下来，慢慢摆脱这种病态。悟性不好的，只能自求多福了。
