Morocco on the verge of lifting the ban on Bitcoin and digital currencies Morocco is lifting its long-standing ban on Bitcoin and digital currencies, marking a significant shift in the country's financial policy. Abdul Latif Johari, the head of Maghreb Bank, announced that the draft law on the regulation of digital assets is in the final stages of approval. Despite the ban since 2017, the use of digital currencies has continued in Morocco, with around 1.9 million people holding digital currencies. The central bank is also considering the development of a central bank digital currency (CBDC). This decision has been taken after consulting with international institutions and studying the regulatory approaches of other countries. Morocco has moved from a complete ban to adopting digital currency legislation, marking a significant shift in the country's approach to new financial technologies.
