I think the identity of social media is based on engagement farming. Otherwise, why would someone share their photo on a website if no one sees it? Everyone wants to upload content that their friends, and then others, will pay attention to. I remember back in 2014, there was a competition among my friends to see whose Instagram post would get the most likes... It gave teenagers a sweet feeling of power.
