if my family is going to NYC this summer and wants to do all the classic new york city tourist stuff - ellis island, empire state building, etc., where is the best location/place to stay? would prefer it be a hotel in a nice area thank you in advance for your assistance

Midtown is best. In the middle you can take a cab or public transport anywhere. The Sofitel midtown is nice.
