Overall agreed with your take on "freedom to fork". However, in this specific instance it seems like it was a pure copy-paste with no fundamental reason or change to justify a fork. With that, I think Paradigm should've just given proper kudos.

Looking at it more, it also seems like Paradigm tried to actually iterate on the original package but Akula maintainer was hard to work with? From your perspective is this just Akula maintainer being "toxic" contributor to the eco-system? I guess its spicier to assume bad intent, but code is open so it is what it is.

it’s not a pure copy paste. they only forked a few crates. Akula can sync ethereum (kind of) while reth is planning to get there in Q1
