artem was kinda infamous for being rude & standoffish. looks like Akula was essentially a solo project since early this year. i ran it recently and it was unstable, kept crashing. it's just not possible to maintain such a large software project alone. a cautionary tale, ultimately https://i.imgur.com/j0khLXS.png

classic phrase from early facebook is that "code wins arguments". yes paradigm could've better credited akula, but freedom to fork is fundamental to open source. and yes they may have an ulterior motive to gain core-dev influence, but geth is overdue for a capable competitor

it’s not a pure copy paste. they only forked a few crates. Akula can sync ethereum (kind of) while reth is planning to get there in Q1

Overall agreed with your take on "freedom to fork". However, in this specific instance it seems like it was a pure copy-paste with no fundamental reason or change to justify a fork. With that, I think Paradigm should've just given proper kudos.

They could have just asked Artem if they would like to work on it together and be more open about what they were doing.
