I don't think those two things are mutually exclusive, they don't need to be balanced. 

Both Judaism and Islam, for example, have a rich tradition of cross-domain scholarship and education. Some of the foremost scholars of Islam, for example, were philosophers, scientists, mathematicians, and scholars of other religions. 

I think belief in an Absolute Truth, while a journey, is foundational to building a coherent and fulfilling life. 

One should accept that society is plural in its beliefs while aiming to be singular in your own belief system.

This is my non-consensus truth, and the fact that it is non-consensus is a root cause of many of society's problems today.

I think seeing them as disparate is a relatively recent phenomena of the post enlightenment era 

People of the past did definitely see theology and science of the same branch.
